Full of jealous women, quite a bit of introspective on the characters feelings.The actual story is short but the book is full of descriptive writing. All the castles and landscapes are described in full detail... almost to a point of where you end up skimming over the details to get to the storyline again. Actually rate between 3 & 4.

The abbess of Vlaye is perhaps the main character of the story but her experience is intricately woven together with that of the younger sister Bonne and her crippled brother. The background is the middle ages when fighting, death, rape, etc. were commonplace and women were not counted for much except among the wealthy. The three siblings find their loves in the midst of fighting, kidnapping and wanton disregard for life. Each of the three attempt a rescue mission placing themselves in danger, each for different reasons. A good story with a surprising ending.
